Fae Fashion

For a while now I’ve been planning on doing a regular fashion post here. Anybody who knows me will probably have a wee laugh to themselves about that, being aware as they would be of my complete lack of style. But I’m not talking about your regular catwalk or high street type of thing. I’m talking about artisan pieces fit to clothe the fairies themselves! During my many fits of procrastination I’ve come across countless such beauties out there in the wonderful word of the web.

For a while now I’ve also been meaning to get back to thanking my new followers like I used to. Alas, I have left it so long that I now have too many new blog buddies to give proper individual thanks to. (Not really something to complain about I suppose.) To make amends, however, I have decided that every so often I’m going to randomly select one of your blogs and share it’s loveliness. I say randomly because you all have such wonderful sites that I just couldn’t pick my favourites.

So today’s post combines both such intentions and in my first instalment of fae-inspired fashion I bring you the wonderful work of Ren from Fairy Steps. Hi there! Ms Ren has so many, many tempting items for sale she makes me want to finally set up a paypal account. Anyway, here are a few examples of the type of thing you can find in her shop:

A Fairytale Home

Some of you may have already come across the work of photographer Magdalena Bors in you travels through cyberspace, apparently she’s all over the interweb, but I’ve only just discovered her myself. I take back what I said about going to live in a tree a little while ago, I want to go live with this girl instead! She takes everyday objects and creates fairytale scenes within the home. Actually, I’ve just had a thought- the only way I’m ever going to be able to own one of those fancy treehouses is if I win the lotto or some such and then I’ll have plenty of money anyway so maybe I could commission her to decorate it. Yes, now that is an idea…

Girly Wishes

I read a little contemporary short story the other day about a girl who meets a leprechaun and convinces him to come spend his money with her at the market. Unlike Mr Disney the writer wasn’t very distinct with his ‘moral of the story’ but I detected in his tone a distinct and, I’m afraid to say, clichéd cynicism towards the capitalist grasp on modern life. Now don’t get me wrong, I can be partial to the odd bit of consumerism bashing myself and, while were on the subject, I generally subscribe to the notion that democracy is an illusion and society is doomed. But I don’t let it get me down. This guy though…well this guy just irked me the way he took the whole silly-little-girls-who-buy-silly-little-things line. Ugh. Why does this bother me so much? Probably ‘cause it might be a wee bit true. Just look at all the lovelies I found on Etsy this week!

Cultural Recycling

Went on a wee visit to lostateminor today and as ever I’ve returned with some fanciful frivolities to share with you. Now these two finds aren’t the usual type of thing I post about- one’s a fashion/cosmetic type thing, the other a geeky tech gadget- but they are both SO cool. (Yes, I said cool. Is it still cool to say cool?)

The first find comes from design company Paperself in the form of these dramatic Chinese-inspired false eyelashes. As you may have already guessed, they’re made from paper. They come in three different auspicious designs-peonies, peach blossoms and horses- and you can check out more images at the company’s website.

The other absolutely brilliant item I have to share is this totally and utterly amazing laptop typewriter. Why had no one come up with this before now? Seriously, why not? It’s genius! Saying that, I’m still not sure exactly how it works. Anyway, it’s from creativeDNAaustira who describe it using terms like “cultural recycling” and “emotionally appealing” in their blurb. Indeed.

My Day in Pictures. Lots of Pictures!

**WARNING: LONGEST POST EVER**

I had a friend come visit me today. Her name is Kathy and she’s just like a little fairy. She’s so good to me too because when she comes to visit she always takes me places that might not be so far away but that I seldom get to because of my own lack of transportation. Like today when she came and whisked me off to Glenveagh National Park. It’s such a spectacular place and only about an hour’s drive away but I hadn’t actually been there in around two years. As I said, I have a serious transport problem.

Anyway, after a beautiful late Spring morning this afternoon turned pretty soggy. Which is such a pity because the photos I’m about to post would’ve have been so much prettier if the sun had had his hat on. Oh well. I don’t really care to be honest ‘cause I had a great day either way. It’d take more than a little wind and rain to spoil the splendour of that stunning glen. Plus, the weather meant the place was midge free for once! Major bonus. Right well I better warn you: there are a lot of images coming up- with explanatory notes- so this post may take a lot of scrolling!

First off we have the castle. It was too miserable a day to go up the hill and get the whole thing in shot so here are some random angles of it instead.

The castle even has it's very own heated pool which was added back in victorian times, as far as I remember (we didn't bother with the tour today).

Next we have the gardener's cottage and the garden.

And here is a little bird eating my cheesecake at the tearoom.

Here are some statues and some wee flowers.

Next we have a little deer.

Now some trees and Kathy in her natural habitat. She is, in fact, an educational officer for the National Parks and Wildlife Services. You can imagine how great it is to go wandering with her.

Finally (*collective sigh*) here are my favourite boots, curly ferns, and a few random examples of the loveliness in Kathy’s car.

    

        

Well, sorry that was so long. It took me all bloody night uploading those! I’ve actually got more I want to put up but, don’t worry, I won’t. I just love that place so much and want to share it with the world! Just think how lovely it would be on a nice day.
