Couture Cutlery

I take no credit for today’s find whatsoever, all I did was open an email from a friend and follow the link to the loveliness. (Thanks Roxanna!) In fact, after having had a right nosy thorough the masses and masses of said lovelines I realised I’d already briefly encountered the work of The Hairy Growler over at a certain fairytale blog of inspiration. So no doubt a lot of you did too.

No matter, though, for even if you have already come across Mr Growler’s stunning recycled silversmithing over at Ruthie’s place another wee run over to his webpage wouldn’t do any harm. Due to the one-off nature of his pieces the site is constantly updated, so much so that regular visitors are encouraged to refresh their browsers so they don’t miss anything. And for those of you who, like myself, are only properly discovering his wonderful work now then I strongly recommend checking it out. So many pretty things to ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’ at!

Made entirely from recycled Victorian tableware and pre-1919 silver coins, every single piece in each of the many collections is as beautiful as it is unique. The Hairy Growler claims to bring “the magic of myth” and “the twinkle of nature” to his jewellery design, and he’s certainly not exaggerating. The man’s a magician, just look at what he can do with spoons!

Back On The Treasure Trail

Sorry, I know I’ve been a bad blogger this past week. I haven’t managed to get round to posting much at all. Etsy’s to blame, I’m afraid. I seem to be entering stage two of my treasury addiction. And I’d been so good there for a while too! I have had plenty of other things occupying my days, it’s just that whenever I’ve managed to get some spare time online I’ve found myself drawn straight to that most wonderful web market. It seems to happen anytime I’ve a batch of job application forms to complete. I’m spending my wage packets before I’ve even got them! Anyway, sorry the blogging’s been suffering. Hopefully I’ll be back on the wagon again by Monday. For now, all I can offer you are a few examples of the said treasuries. Check out the other fruits of my distraction here.

Oh my, what have I done...

Ever since I found out about them I’ve been resisting the urge to furiously start compiling Etsy treasuries, knowing that if I gave in even for a second I’d be hooked. Thought it best just to keep posting the odd handful of finds up here. Unfortunately I had a few application forms to fill out last night and the procrastination fairy reared its mischievous little head. “Sure there’s no harm in it,” he reassured me. “Just start one now while you enjoy your tea and you can come back to it another time.” I now have five. And, no, the applications still aren’t finished. Neither is my first art journal page. But I did find lots of pretty little things!

So here’s my first, probably of a very many:

Check out my others here.
I hope some of you recognise a few of the treasures!

Magic Shoes?

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook today- what a blast from the past! I remember wanting these shoes soooo badly! I’m sure any of you who were little girls in the 80s did too. Remember the secret key hidden in the soles? I used to spend ages looking at the bottom of my feet!

p.s Sorry the quality of the video is so poor, but it is very old!

Fae Fashion

For a while now I’ve been planning on doing a regular fashion post here. Anybody who knows me will probably have a wee laugh to themselves about that, being aware as they would be of my complete lack of style. But I’m not talking about your regular catwalk or high street type of thing. I’m talking about artisan pieces fit to clothe the fairies themselves! During my many fits of procrastination I’ve come across countless such beauties out there in the wonderful word of the web.

For a while now I’ve also been meaning to get back to thanking my new followers like I used to. Alas, I have left it so long that I now have too many new blog buddies to give proper individual thanks to. (Not really something to complain about I suppose.) To make amends, however, I have decided that every so often I’m going to randomly select one of your blogs and share it’s loveliness. I say randomly because you all have such wonderful sites that I just couldn’t pick my favourites.

So today’s post combines both such intentions and in my first instalment of fae-inspired fashion I bring you the wonderful work of Ren from Fairy Steps. Hi there! Ms Ren has so many, many tempting items for sale she makes me want to finally set up a paypal account. Anyway, here are a few examples of the type of thing you can find in her shop:

Dainty little shoes (obviously).

Pretty handknitted garments.

Funky leather bags and purses.

p.s Sorry the enlarged images are of poor quality here, they look much better on the website!
