I wandered lonely as a cloud…

Daffodils

Did you know that Wordsworth originally meant that line to read ‘I wandered lonely as a cow’? Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. Good job there was a woman about to give it that extra whimsical charm, eh?

Anyway, I’m aware it’s not the most original title for a photo post on daffodils but I’m a little lacking in the imaginative thought department this evening.  I think all this extra daylight is addling my brain a bit, plus the fact I’ve just been sorting through the zillions of flower photos I’ve taken over the past wee while. I honestly don’t remember taking so many! And spring has only properly begun springing so I’d say I’ll be snapping plenty more before the seasons out.

They’re definitely the best part of spring; I’m not too found of the sunshine and showers but I can’t get enough of the wee flowers. I’m sharing my daffodil shots today ‘cause it looks like they’re beginning to wither now, but it should be bluebell season soon and I’ve spotted lots of other exciting little buds waiting to bloom so expect another flower post soon.

A Host of Golden Daffodils
Some More Daffodils

Oh, and sorry for neglecting the blog all week. Yet another thing to blame the extra daylight for - the evenings have been slipping away so fast I couldn’t actually find the time to post.  And the weather’s too been lovely to be inside during the day - cold and sunny, just how I like it. Anyhoo, I’ll be back to regular posting just as soon as the rain returns ;)

Lonely as a cow? Go on! And if the woman you're referring to is Dorothy, you should read 'The Wordsmiths at Gorsemere.' One of the funniest books I've ever read.

It's a good thing Wordsworth put a little more worth to those words. Anyway, beautiful flowers, Roisin! You sure do have a way of capturing the heart of Spring. But don't fret too much about not posting as much as you'd like, because the world is bursting forth with color and fragrance and sunlight. Enjoy as much of it as you can, when you can. And remember that old adage: "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." Blog because you love it, not because you feel obligated to. We're always here when you have something to share. :).

Dual colored daffys in riotious abundance ~ how glorious ~ and how well you capture them! It's hard not to fawn over Spring's first bloomers; I've got a camera full of flower shots as well and it's only April!

Nothing quite as bright and cheery as Daffodils in the Spring. Mine have long since past but the bluebells are in full bloom. :0)
Enjoy the gorgeous weather!

And I don't really think that clouds wander around lonely......

Lonely as a cow??? o_O

*facepalm*

Anywho... I LOVE your daffodil pics! I love flowers in general, however, but daffodils just seem so cheery to me! With how grey, wet & cold our Spring is, I can't help but love those tiny bits of earth-bound sunshine. ^-^

Hope your lovely weather holds!

XOXO

Fantastic, I love the original. It's a line I could imagine Baldrick from Blackadder saying. Oh Roisin, that really made me howl! Hope you are having the same beautiful, spring sunshiney weekend as Edinburgh.

JJ said...

Baldrick’s version:

I wandered lonely as a cow
And felt the sudden need to shit.
'I think I’ll do it here and now
Then ramblers all can step in it.'

Sorry Roisin. Hope your sensibilities aren’t too offended. That Melanie woman brings out the worst in people.

The daffodils are lovely...they just scream SPRING! Enjoy your beautiful weather!

Yep, Beazley, that's just what Baldrick would come up with. That's hilarious! I do wish that dirty little man had published a book of poetry. But I'm not sure I'd have him autograph it. He'd probably use one of his pointy toenails dipped in turnip juice. I don't think I'd be able to stand the smell of that, much less the sight of it.

And there was me feeling guilty...

How lovely. Just the medicine I needed after wrestling with my algebra homework all day. I detest math during the bad weather, so you can imagine my thoughts about it during beautiful weather like we had today when I'm stuck inside wrangling with numbers when I'd rather be outdoors. Such golden balm for my weary soul!

What enchanting yellow bonnets you've captured, Roisin, they're glorious. So soothing for us in the big (and still only budding) city. Thanks for sharing this. xx

From now on, I will hear Baldrick's voice when I imagine any version of those lines.

Beautiful, bright, gorgeous flowers! Thank you.

Lonely as a cow, eh? That's interesting. I love Wordsworth.
No....it's WB Yeats. Sorry. Beautiful flower photos. I love Daffodils ~ what a shame they only grace us with their presence and beauty but once a year....

Have you seen your blog today, friend? It says over and over in squares "We're doing a little work right now. Your image will be back soon. Photobucket." Strange occurance. Well, anyway, "Hi dear!" Sending joy and light your way and thanks for the Wordsworth! Love this! Blessings.

What a pretty selection of daffodils. We're enjoying them too at the minute and looking forward to bluebells and lovely hawthorn and elderflower blossom.
