Not Another Alice Post

So just about everyone has seen Alice by now and the jury’s still out. Personally I enjoyed it, but I can also understand why so many people were disappointed. There’s great deal of expectation when it comes to reworking such a well loved story.  The only thing that surprises me is that there’s all this fuss now even though there’s been countless film versions of Alice over the years that have past by without comment. What’s so different about this one? Oh yea, a certain actor/director combo and a box-office opening. That’d do it.

Anyway, this isn’t a post about the film (god knows, there’s already no shortage of them out in blogland). I’m actually only mentioning it because it’s recent enough and it’s something to say as an introduction to these enchanting images by pareeerica. I’ve just spent the evening browsing through her Flickr account and I love her pictures so much I’m going to have to remember to share some more. Enjoy!

I’m sad to say that you’re really not missing all that much. As I said, I thoroughly enjoyed it but my sister who’s also a big Alice fan (we had a hard back copy comprising both books as kids and read it so much the pages fell out) was really disappointed. It looks wonderful and it is pure escapist fun, but it’s too short and with hardly any depth. It kinda put me in mind of those children’s fantasy films from the 80s like Labyrinth or The Never Ending Story. No bad thing, really, but I’d say you’d enjoy it much more if you were under the age of 12. I would recommend catching it in the cinema, if you can, though. I generally don’t see the fuss about this new wave of 3D films (it’s just an anti-pirating mechanism from what I can see) but I would say that the animation in Alice was almost on a par with Avatar.

I haven't seen the film yet either in spite of years of anticipation. I'm a little afraid of disappointment at this point... I think I will love it though! Beautiful images! And thanks for following over at Steam Spectre! I will be following you back as well!

Steam Spectre- I think you’ll love Alice too. The story’s been reworked so you’ll like that bit or you won’t but, needless to say, the visuals will keep you happy either way.

Saskatoon- Checked out your blog there and I’ll definitely be back. Oh, and I think it has the best title ever! Any friend of tea is a friend of mine.
